Maybe once I actually notice my hearing going out I’ll take it seriously… Keep your wallet and keys in your front pocket, maybe wear a small bag around your waist. You don’t wanna lose your stuff and you don’t wanna think about it the whole time. I wish I would’ve known this before I saw Metallica live a few years ago for my 16th birthday. I was so disappointed. A Metallica concert with avenged sevenfold on before them made teenage me lose my shit when I first heard of the concert. When we finally got there, I was uncomfortable the whole time and Metallica does this thing where they think the music sounds heavier if they play it faster but it just sounds like dog shit I can’t believe I had to scroll this far down for ANYONE to mention closed-toed shoes, let alone comfortable shoes at all.

You think “oh, it’ll be loud” — but its shocking just how loud a rock gig really is. As a minimum pop a couple of foamy ear plugs in a pocket ready to go. This keeps the audio clarity but just lowers the decibels. Much better than traditional foam ear plugs that you use in a machine shop. Definitely this! I know lots of people that refuse to wear ear protection because they think it’s “lame” or that it will ruin the sound of the show. Concerts can get loud enough to permanently damage your hearing. One of the times I forgot to wear ear plugs for a show at a small venue, my ears were ringing for like a week making it difficult to sleep To add to this, wear them correctly. Just jamming the foam ones in is substantially less effective than proper use. They need to be rolled, inserted, and allowed to expand to fill the space.
